Florida (Winter)
Florida is one of the main destinations for people looking to get out of the cold and snow. South of Orlando the climate is almost never cold. In the summer it is quite hot and humid. This is when Floridians often come go Canada. Question: In the summer how do you tell the difference between a Florida resident and a tourist? Answer: The Floridian is under a shade tree.
Along the Atlantic and Gulf coast is expensive and prawn to hurricanes. It is difficult for a person outside the United States to get hurricane insurance. There are great deals if you travel 50 miles in from the shore and less chance of a hurricane doing damage.
Northern Florida does get a short winter but is less expensive.
There are always lots of places to buy or rent. Hint: Age
Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico (Winter)
Arizona or Nevada or New Mexico are quite popular by the north. The winter climate is quite nice and dry. The summer is extremely hot and could be considered as miserable and a northern winter. The wildlife and plants can be a problem if you don’t know how to protect yourself. Although the locals are friendly you will be a little shocked by their cowboy customs. Most people we have talked too like the area once they get over things like scorpions taking a drink out of their hot tub while they are in it.
Costa Rica, Central America (Winter)
The Costa Rica plateau is said to have one of the best climates in the world. What we do know from talking to people, who have been there, said it is like spring all year. The crime rate is higher than in Canada but not more than United States. Petty crime is the worst. Most women will put their purse strap over their head and tuck the purse under their arm. People who go there once often will go back.
Vancouver Island BC (All Year)
Vancouver Island is known to have the warmest climate in Canada. The amount of silver hair people is all the proof you require that this is an Over 55 destination. The only down side is that it is a little expensive compared to Canadian standards.
Ontario Canada (Summer)
Do you like lots of fresh water? Then Ontario is for you in the spring, summer and fall. Most people realize the Great Lakes are along the southern border with the United States but did you know there are probable more small lakes than anywhere else in the world. Many of these lakes have public boat access and are great for swimming and fishing. You can go to lakes that have 500 hp speedboats of go to a lake where there are no people. Also, You are only 3 or 4 hours from many of their main cities.
One exception is Southern Ontario.
This area is known for farming and industry and does have a large population similar to the United States. Here you can find theatres, sports complexes and lots of tourist traps. The summer temperature is similar to southern Florida in the winter but can get a lot warmer for a few days at a time. Many people from the south live in Ontario in the summer to get out of the extreme heat.
